Event Recap: CapMac & CakeLove Team Up

CapMac, D.C.’s favorite food truck, teamed up with CakeLove, D.C.’s favorite cupcake shop, to bring customers the Sweet-N-Cheesy event! Team CapMac (consisting of Chef Brian Arnoff and Chef Vickie Harris) were on site at CakeLove s Downtown Silver Spring location serving up samples of their Marco Polo Mac (mac-n-cheese with red wine meat sauce) and their original mac (mac-n-cheese topped with extra cheese and cheez-its).

Nutella, Coffee, Lemon, Chocolate & Vanilla

CakeLove owner Warren Brown, served up 6 of their new cream cheese flavors which will be available for purchase later this year. Customers were encouraged to vote for their favorite flavor and think of names for each flavor ranging from chocolate, vanilla, lemon, coffee, nutella, and peanut butter. Ultimately peanut butter and coffee were voted the best flavors. I will keep my Cupcake Lovers posted on CakeLove's signature frosting to be sold by the container very soon!

Pretty Girl Cupcakery Celebrates the Season!

On Saturday, December 1, 2012, I visited Pretty Girl Cupcakery (5606 Baltimore Avenue Hyattsville, MD) for their Holiday Trunk Show! The private event featured jewelry by Rosiland Burch of Step Out the Box Jewelry and BodyCare Cafe spa products by Regina Pearman.

The event was a buzz with DC and Prince George's taste makers. Guest sipped on a special holiday mocktail of ginger ale and white cranberry while noshing on the wide variety of macarons ranging from chocolate, pistachio, french vanilla and raspberry flavors.

Pretty Girl Cupcakery staff (all of whom are gorgeous) were on deck to serve up a wide variety of both mini and full-sized cupcakes. That day I purchased the Grand Marnier cupcake (which was a new flavor), another strawberry champagne (which I love) and received a mini SC cupcake for my swag bag as a "Thank you" gift!

Visiting the vendor tables, I got to chat with Regina Pearman of BodyCare Cafe- a line of organic body scrubs and lotions- and she graciously discounted her last jar of her Lime Sugar Scrub which smells divine (think the world's best margarita only for your body). She also threw in a hemp-based cucumber melon lotion which was smooth and is keeping my skin fresh!

Open Mic Night at Baked & Wired

Event Recap: Hello Kitty for President!

The Cupcake Critic & Hello Kitty

Last Friday I got the chance to visit the Hello Kitty for President headquarters.

The event was housed at the Living Social building where I was greeted by a young lady completely outfitted in Hello Kitty gear. Let me tell you, Kitty sure knows how to party! As you can see by the photo above, Kitty is exceptionally friendly and a joy to be around.

Once inside, I was greeted with tons of FREE Hello Kitty for President gear such a HK ears, posters, flyers, stickers, and poster board cut-outs. Sephora was positioned upstairs and giving full-face makeovers while handing out swag bags with HK clear nail polish and stickers (yes, I used both...don't judge me).

Everyone enjoyed the $0.50 claw machine (whose proceeds went to 826DC.com) filled with HK plush goodies. On the wall were American art classics with an HK twists. My favorite was George Washington Crossing the Delaware with HK in the back helping to guide the vessel. At one point Hello Kitty herself made and appearance and took pics with everyone. Later fellow blogger Kristy Samone and myself grazed by the open bar and took cutie-pie photos in the Living Social photo booth.

Aside from being a swagged-out space, the headquarters also acted as a pop-up shop where patrons could purchase Hello Kitty merchandise and the proceeds would be donated to the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Further the shindig's true focus was to raise money for the D.C. education charity, 826DC.com. Georgetown Cupcake was also on board and is selling Hello Kitty for President cupcakes to benefit 826DC.com.

The best treat of the evening was getting a hand-cut silhouette of my face made by the talented Marie-Helene L. Graham. Kristy also scored us some tickets to a VIP shindig scheduled for that Saturday at the HK HQ's where the infamous Biz Markie would be spinning...sadly the Critic was too pooped to party. Needless to say, she has my vote!

Hello Kitty for President! With Georgetown Cupcake's Support!

Running on the Friendship Party's campaign ticket,  Hello Kitty has thrown her hat into the proverbial ring and is running for President! President of what has yet to be determined (along with her gender) but she has set-up campaign headquarters in the Living Social building in Chinatown. Hello Kitty has got the support of Georgetown Cupcake who will be selling Hello Kitty for President cupcakes from November 1-6th to support the education charity, 826DC. You can stop by her campaign headquarters and enjoy an art display of revised American Arts with Hello Kitty as President, Sephora make-overs (I LOVE SEPHORA!), Hello Kitty silhouette paper cut-outs; a Hello Kitty photo booth, ballon art, and a claw machine.  I'm digging the campaign already! Visit the Hello Kitty for President Tumblr here.

Watch the 'Wicked Good Showdown' on TLC's DC Cupcakes

Be sure to tune in to TLC's DC Cupcakes on Tuesday at 8PM EST for Georgetown Cupcake's Katherine and Sophie and the special 'Wicked Good Showdown' episode. This episode will pit the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox as the Boston and New York stores attempt to outsell each other to raise money for local charities. Georgetown Cupcake's 'Sweet Celebrations' Book Tour

The owners of Georgetown Cupcake, and stars of TLC's DC Cupcakes, have released a new book entitled 'Sweet Celebrations'. Authors (and sisters) Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontague are going on tour to promote the book which gives cupcake recipes, memories and decorating tips on cupcakes and cupcake creations. The tour will kick off in Brooklyn, NY on Tuesday, October 9th which is also the release date for the book. There will be four stops in the D.C. area at select stores. I'm personally looking forward to the Lavender Earl Grey cupcake recipe which has become my mother's favorite.
