Thank You!

Despite the announcement of a return from my hiatus, after careful thought, I have decided to discontinue The Cupcake Critic blog.

My decision to discontinue the blog after an amazing and rewarding two years has been a hard one to make and derived after many sleepless nights. Beginning this Fall I will be teaching in Prince George's County Public Schools through Teach for America. Teaching is a passion that I have held for some time and I am excited about this opportunity. However to fully focus on the bright pupils of PGPS, I have to be singular in mind and focus.

My blog has been a major part of my life and it's difficult to imagine it no longer being here. I have delighted in creating, writing, and managing the blog since its inception; watching it grow. Further to be recognized at the Black Street Awards, along with numerous other opportunities, are things that I could not have imagined when I began this journey.

More than anything I will miss the love, support, and camaraderie of my fellow Cupcake Lovers. I have thoroughly enjoyed tweeting, reading, liking, and corresponding with each of you. Therefore my decision has come with teary-eyes but I thank you for your passionate and unyielding support.

All my best....*Big Hugs & Back Rubs*

Meet The Baker: Warren Brown

The Cupcake Critic presents a new series called, Meet The Baker. Our first entry is Warren Brown, owner of CakeLove. CakeLove currently has 6 locations throughout D.C. Warren Brown, a former attorney, is the author of three books and the host of the Food Network's, Sugar Rush. I sat down with Brown at his downtown Silver Spring store to discuss: business, parenthood, his challenges and triumphs. Check out part 1 of the 3-part series.

The Cupcake Critic featured on Social Media TV

Imagine my surprise when I get a tweet from Splash Media TV stating that they did a feature on Veep Joe Biden and yours truly.
Surely, I thought, this was a joke. But it wasn't. While teaching folks about embedding a tweet, stood The Cupcake Critic's Twitter page. Not only was my page used it featured a tweet regarding my Black Weblog Award nomination. Yay! Hopefully it will garner more votes. If you haven't already, please vote The Cupcake Critic for Best Food blogFast forward to 3:00 to watch. Thanks Splash Media TV!

Sweet Themez Bakery Celebrates Adams Morgan Day

DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

Adams Morgan bakery, Sweet Themez, celebrated Adams Morgan Day by cooking up some of their yummy cakes and cupcakes. Owners Adrienne and Maurice were featured on Fox 5 this morning and showcased one of my favorites: their Louis Vuitton cupcakes. Adrienne, Sweet Themez's chief baker, also had her flavorful cake pops on hand. Their red velvet cake pops are also my favorite due to their size (imagine a cupcake on a stick), moist texture and flavor.

Check out my review of their shop and then taste the real thing at the DC to NYC Cupcake Happy Hour hosted by yours truly on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 6-9PM at the Blue Banana Sports bar. Sweet Themez will be providing some of my favorites: Grandma's Pound Cake cupcakes, vegan red velvet, and Sweet Satisfaction (a caramel turtle cupcake). Be one of the first 25 people there to receive a gift bag complete with a red velvet cake pop. Don't miss it!
